Four months had passed
Since I last had seen it,
Since I last held it in my hands,
Since I last had succumbed.

Then it laid there,
Shimmering in the light,
Beckoning me towards it,
Asking for just one drop.

Inside my mind, thoughts wrestled
Yelling their incessant roars
Suppressing all but agony
Drowning out all other sense,

Across my hills saline rivers flowed
Reddening all they touched
Distorting the view of the black
Focusing only on the silver

My hands shook as I picked it up
Drawing nearer to the peach
Pressing down with little force and
Hesitating momentarily

Never so slowly had a minute passed
As in that moment of vacillation
And after four months gone again
I almost wish I hadn’t ceased
